John Rhys-Davies: "I understand the film is going to be made, allegedly in May. I have the slightest skepticism that the world will be able to shoot a movie like that in May. I suppose it is possible that I will be asked to be in it. If nominated I will serve! (laughs) But I think we ought to wait a little bit longer and, you know, let our masters actually make announcements and then you can either share my joy or my disappointment. Is that suitably diplomatic?"
January 22, 2021
James Mangold: "I'm mentally living in 60's NYC right now cause that's where all the movies I'm working on take place."
February 4, 2021
James Mangold: "Today was a wonderful day. I'm so excited about glorious people converging and collaborating to make our film."
February 14, 2021
John Rhys-Davies: "As far as Indiana Jones, if called, I would serve. (laughs) I would love to have another go at Raiders of the Lost Ark. I think the character has a certain significance. I'm pretty sure they must know how powerful it could be to have Indy and Sallah reunite. It would be poignant and very well regarded by the audience. It's a unique and probably last opportunity to do it. There are times in your life you do know the time is ticking."
February 14, 2021
John Rhys-Davies: "I'd like to have another go at the Indiana Jones one, if I get invited."
February 23, 2021
Sean Patrick Flanery: "Man, I can probably count on one hand the amount of people that wouldn't want to do something that George Lucas originated. Being in a Harrison Ford film, I mean, that falls into that same Dexter category. But having said that, I mean, to me, Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. You know what I mean? They've got my 20 bucks at the theater every time they put one of those out. Absolutely."
February 27, 2021
James Mangold: "I may choose wisely but Drew Struzan has to agree! This is the beginning of a what may be a long seduction process!"
March 8, 2021
Phedon Papamichael: "It's interesting. The US studios are trying to test the [Covid] models in London like they did for Mission: Impossible 7 and Jurassic World: Dominion. They're seeing what kind of safety restrictions work. Can we operate with a large crew and a large budget? On big stages? They're testing them in Europe, whether it's Prague, Budapest, London or Berlin."
March 16, 2021
Phedon Papamichael: "It's a great challenge. It's definitely the biggest budget movie I've ever done, by a lot. I go in with a certain confidence because it's my sixth movie with James Mangold but of course, it is always a bit daunting because it has affected generations. It comes with a certain responsibility. All this action is only really effective when you feel for the characters when you care whether they're going to make it or not. We really try to focus on their faces, their expressions, their POV. I personally found [Ford on the set of Call of the Wild] super-fun to be around, very inspirational, [with] the enthusiasm and humour he brings. I'm just looking forward to [Indiana Jones]," Papamichael said, comparing himself to a kid "about to go to Disneyland to explore rides he maybe knows from the past. I know [Spielberg is] definitely having conversations with Mangold. He is very supportive. He is very excited for us to be doing this." The project is currently in pre-production and expected to shoot in the summer. Locations are being scouted and production designer Adam Stockhausen is coming up with plans. "We get going in Pinewood and then we go to various locations which I cannot reveal to you."
March 29, 2021
James Mangold: "I'm just doing what [storyboard artist Gabriel] Hardman tell me."
April 8, 2021
Lucasfilm: Phoebe Waller-Bridge will star alongside Harrison Ford. In addition, the inimitable John Williams will return to score the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will serve as producers.
April 8, 2021
James Mangold: "I'm thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers. Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can't help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself."
April 10, 2021
James Mangold: "Current writers are Jez and John-Henry Butterworth (who worked with me on FvF) and myself!"
April 15, 2021
Deadline: Lucasfilm has found Harrison Ford's next co-star in Mads Mikkelsen.
April 22, 2021
The Wrap: German actor Thomas Kretschmann has joined the cast.
May 5, 2021
Mads Mikkelsen: "I'm very, very excited about it. I rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day, it is so well-done and so charming, and it's such great storytelling. So yes it's a great honor to be part of that franchise that I grew up with. I'm in a lucky position where they let me read the script before. And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great. I do think I'm invited in to create a character, I think that everybody wants that. That's why they pick certain actors that they think can come up with certain things, and it will be a collaboration as it always is. Interesting enough, again a little like Riders of Justice, there is kind of a genre mix in Indiana Jones always. There is something that is a little larger-than-life, almost back to the 30s with a Peter Lorre kind of feel, and then you have Indiana Jones who kind of is a straight man. But he does produce a lot of funny and interesting things, but there are different character genres in some of those films."
May 7, 2021
la Repubblica: The search for locations started in December, and involved several Sicilian municipalities. From Syracuse to Noto, passing through Scicli and Cefalu. Shooting will begin in July and finish in October. The film will be shot in the temple ruins of Magra Greece. There is Segesta, it is now certain, there could be Syracuse, certainly the film will be shot mostly in Sicily, and Cefalu is among the most accredited seaside places. Our island beat Greece, another great location candidate to host the film."
May 9, 2021
Daily Record: Indiana Jones is heading to Scotland to film later this year. Moviemakers plan to capture scenes of the hills and mountainous terrain. A source said: "It's unclear if it will just be production staff but we think [Ford will appear]. Film crews are expected to start pre-production shots from mid November before cast arrive. Filming is expected to take from a few days to a week before things wrap up just before Christmas."
May 10, 2021
James Mangold: "Soon!"
May 13, 2021
Mads Mikkelsen can't reveal specifics "unless you want to find me at the bottom of a lake somewhere," he says, smiling darkly. Days after his first Zoom conference call with Indiana Jones filmmakers, Mikkelsen watched the Oscars.
May 13, 2021
Mads Mikkelsen: "All of a sudden, I'm in one thing, and then I'm in four or five different franchises that are some of the biggest ones. It's surreal for me. But I think it would be for any actor, British and American as well. It's really a thrill."
Q: "Can you tell me anything about Indiana Jones 5?"
Mads Mikkelsen: "I can tell you a lot, but then somebody has to shoot me [laughs]. We will start rehearsing this week, and then we'll start shooting in 4-5 weeks. It's starting up now. And Fantastic Beasts is already over. Ask me about the franchises, I know everything [laughs]."
May 13, 2021
Q: "What's your next project?"
Mads Mikkelsen: "I am going to be part of the new Indiana Jones, which starts shooting very soon."
Q: "As the villain? "
Mads Mikkelsen: "I can't reveal that. But have a guess. [laughs] He's just a misunderstood person."
May 14, 2021
Deadline: Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette Renee Wilson are set to co-star.
May 14, 2021

The Illuminerdi: Mads Mikkelsen will be playing the villain in this new installment of Indiana Jones. His character is described to us as a Nazi scientist enlisted into NASA by the United States government to work on the space agency's moon landing initiative. Shaunette Renee Wilson will be playing Mads Mikkelsen's villain's CIA handler responsible for "babysitting" the Nazi scientist turned NASA recruit. There will also be a female villain, "an evil and brutal killer" who will work with Mads Mikkelsen's character. According to our sources, Scarlett Johansson actually passed on this role previously.
May 21, 2021
Northumberland Gazette: Bamburgh Castle will be closed on May 25 and from June 4-12, 2021 due to filming. "They wanted to book out the council car park for three weeks but that's been scaled back now to four days. The film production has compromised quite a lot already from three weeks down to just a few days and we have spent years asking them." "There's a lot of NDAs apparently."
May 22, 2021
Mads Mikkelsen: "It's obviously surreal. Even if I was an American or an English actor it would be surreal to be a part of so many different franchises. And as a Dane, it's even more surreal. I don't know what to say about it. It's fun. And it's fun to get a text from a friend that says I just made a list. It's fun. I don't know what to add. These are things we all grew up with and it's just surreal."

The Sun: Bamburgh Castle crew members are transfixed by the prospect of meeting the ghostly Pink Lady, who is said to patrol the corridors. An insider told me: "It sounds silly but before filming even starts, all any of us are talking about is the ghost. It's a seriously creepy place. A surprising number of the crew really believe in this stuff and it's rattled everyone. A number of the team are reluctant to even go into the oldest part of the castle."

Drew Struzan: "Mangold, Harrison, and the rest of the cast and crew of Indiana Jones 5... We've been hoping for another Indy. He's in good hands. Crack whips, hang onto your hats, and have fun filming the next great escape of our lifetime! Who knows what adventures lie ahead?"
James Mangold: "Thanks Drew! Off we go! Praying you and I get to play on this one!"
Drew Struzan: "I'm offering up the same prayer."

Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland, England is "closed due to filming. We reopen on June 14 and apologise for any inconvenience." More images can be found here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Paul Freeman: "I'd have to say I'm very impressed by Ben Whishaw. So, if he wanted to play a young Belloq, I'd be very happy for him to do that."
June 8, 2021
Karen Allen: "I would have to really think about somebody who I think would make an interesting young Marion. It would be kind of cool. I'd love to see Marion portrayed at that time when she first met Indiana Jones, when she was 16. That would be very interesting. Her history at the Raven Bar when her father was still alive, how all of that evolved. How the whole drinking contest thing evolved and how she developed that incredible stamina. That'd be fun."
June 10, 2021
Karen Allen: "They're really meant to be with each other. The point at which they got married, they'd been through so much and I don't think they would have broken up again. It's Indy and Marion forever."
June 12, 2021
Karen Allen: "I have thought about what would our world be like after they got married and what they both end up doing. I was imagining they would settle down somewhere, he would go back to working as a professor and they would have some semblance of the life that we first meet them when he splits his time between those two worlds. She and he might go off on adventures but they would also have some semblance of domestic life, and their son would be a part of it."
June 13, 2021
James Mangold: "Never seen a script by Jon (Kasdan). Nothing against him. Just reality. (Jez and John-Henry) Butterworths & I started from a blank page. (Spielberg, Kennedy and Ford) r hugely talented & all at my side. If it's any relief, the story came from my co-writers and myself. No star chamber. No corporate edicts. I simply adore Indy and admire Harrison and I have been inspired by Steven Spielberg all my life.. so this project allows me a chance to collaborate with personal heroes. Steven has been working with me on the film for a year. And nobody manages to get younger as time goes by. Yes on Anamorphic. And of course we worship Slocombe. Maybe, just maybe, I won't let you down. I cherish old Hollywood pictures. Give me a little air to make the film. Then make your judgements, okay? I understand wariness, I live it. I don't know if I'll make you happy. But my team & I will knock ourselves out trying to make something good. We admire the craft of the originals. I hope when you see real images, they'll look better to you than paparazzi shots from bushes."
June 14, 2021
James Mangold: "John (Williams) has read the script and is ready to go. He hasn't written a score that isn't memorable and beautiful."
June 15, 2021
Karen Allen: "Oh, you might. I don't know. You have to, time will tell."
June 15, 2021
John Rhys-Davies: "Indy 5 is brewing I hear... hmmm... [looks directly at the camera] Hmmmmm..."

Disney: "In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder. Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks." Production was then postponed, Ford appeared in London wearing a sling, without it in Croatia, and back in London here, here, here, and here.

Karen Allen: "I'm very happy that there’s going to be a fifth Indiana Jones movie. There were only supposed to be three films. I never anticipated they would make a fourth, but when they did a fourth movie and decided to include me, I was thrilled. I think there was a real setup at the end of the fourth film that made the audience believe that there would be a fifth. Steven Spielberg said that he had such a good time making the fourth that he wanted to follow it up. There's a lot of pressure to do the series justice and honor the legacy, but I know that Steven, Harrison and everyone else involved are going to put in a lot of work to make another wonderful film."

August 25, 2021
Karen Allen: "You know, the fourth one left a lot hanging. I think Steven always had the intention to make at least one more. I think Harrison too. I'm very happy that they're doing it. Everybody says this will be the last one and I think that makes sense, that they want to bring it all to a kind of sense of closure and completion." Future: "We could meet Indy when he was working with my father, when he was 20 years old or 25 or something and my character would be 16 or 17. That's an interesting area to explore if they want to keep going, but that would be, of course, with completely different actors. People love my character so much, and they are always saying, 'I would love to see what Marion was doing all those years where we lost track of her.' I always say, 'Well, it'd be great if they would want to do something like that,' but I doubt that that's ever going to come to pass. You never know, it's true!"

Frank Marshall: "Again, the protocols are in place. We're shooting in London again. We had a little hiccup with Harrison, but he's great. He's back. He's shooting every day, and all I can say is it looks like a real Indiana Jones movie. It's so nice to see everybody back."
October 7, 2021
Antonio Banderas: "I don't play the bad guy. Many people think I am the villain, but I am not the villain, I'm a very good guy. Actually I die for him, for the man."

Antonio Banderas: "Let's see if I survive the experience. This film is shooting since June and I'll finish it in December. It's an enormous production, it can have up to five different units working simultaneously across different countries." These kinds of projects can be "very impersonal."
October 14, 2021
John Williams: will start writing the music for the new Indiana Jones film "in one ot two weeks. You'll still have to wait until next summer to hear it. It's on schedule, despite Ford's injury. Indiana Jones is changing by the second."
October 15, 2021
John Williams: "We have already made four Indiana Jones films, and as we speak, in London Harrison Ford is now shooting the fifth one. So I think that's good news, because when I leave Berlin I will go back to Los Angeles in a few days and begin to write the score for the fifth Indiana Jones film."

Nic Cupac, 54, was found dead in his hotel room in the city of Fes. "His sudden passing was not production related. Nic was a grip on 2nd unit."

Making Star Wars: "There was a cave set. They made more caves, natural caves. You can see a sort of ancient dome on the inside. It's like an ancient looking manmade thing inside of this cave structure. There's hydraulics, so it falls inwards and collapses into itself. Around it are a bunch of medieval statues. Kurt assures us it's the Die Glocke machine."
November 18, 2021
John Rhys-Davies: "Well, they'd have surely announced it if it was going to happen, wouldn't they? Can any secret be kept for long these days? Did you see anything, do you think there's any truth of that rumor that Banderas might be in it? I think he's probably playing the John Rhys-Davies part. Bastard! If I'd been contracted to do it, they would probably have put, but you must be quiet about this until we announce it or something like that. However, of course they didn't contract me, did they? So one would have to deny, wouldn't one? It's a tricky one that, isn't it? Will he, won't he, did he, didn't he, could it be? Well maybe not. Why didn't he do the last one? Ah well, there you are, see? Life is full of mysteries."
November 21, 2021
Olivier Richters [translated]: Last month he stood with Harrison Ford on a sun-drenched beach in Morocco. "A dream come true. [My] most important role to date. That man is not normal. He's almost 80 and I sometimes see him walking around the set like a young guy for up to 12 hours at a time. I really admire that. I don't want to bombard him with questions, but I do try to ask him for tips from time to time. That man really has gold in his head. I have to do my own stunts myself, because there is nobody to replace me because of my big body. Ford also did his own stunts in the past so he can tell me all the tips and tricks. Because I can't be replaced, I just can't get injured." Each stunt is therefore preceded by two days of training and preparation. "Some stunts, such as fight scenes, are quite doable. But once I had to walk with little visibility over a bridge with holes. If I then take a wrong step and hit the floor with my full weight, it's just game over. [His own personal chef] just arrives every 2.5 hours with a meal, that's really chill. Before, I always had to prepare all my meals in my own hotel room. Sometimes I'm on set from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. Then I have to go to the gym afterwards to work out. I really enjoy doing sports and bodybuilding and if that ensures that I get roles in big movies, I do it with all the love."
November 30, 2021
Toby Jones: "Well, working with Harrison was miraculous. He's a 78 year old man who feels like at least 20 years younger than that. We were doing a lot of action scenes which was great, and I really enjoyed that. I mean, when I was a kid and I watched those films, the idea that they would still be going on and that I would be part of one was sort of, you thought, well, that won't be happening now. All of these films have endured so long and been reinvented so many ways. I'm excited, I thought it was a really good script, the script that I saw. Now, we're venturing into territory which I can't really talk about. You're out compromising my contractual obligations."
December 12, 2021
Antonio Banderas: "Tomorrow I come back to the shoot with Mr. Indiana Jones in London."
