Deadline: Steven Spielberg is now figuring out his next two directorial vehicles. There are several percolating, but sources say he is eyeing Indiana Jones, and then would either precede or follow quickly with another pic. I'm hearing that one might be his dream project, a new version of West Side Story. Sources said that Spielberg could fall for another script - if you got a good one, now's the time to send it - and could possibly do a film before Indy if one hits him like a lightning bolt the way that Liz Hannah's script for The Post did.

Hollywood Reporter: Steven Spielberg has begun the casting process for new screen adaptation of the Broadway musical West Side Story, which the 71-year-old filmmaker will tackle after he first shoots a new Indiana Jones movie. And while Indy 5 is the next to go for Spielberg, insiders don't rule out the miniscule chance that another project, small-ish in scale, could shoot up from the development pile and grab his interest.

Steven Spielberg: "Unless I find something small to do this year, and I'm still looking for something. I'm developing a few things. But if I don't find something my next directing will be Indy next year in '19. I can say that whatever it is is going to be really good. I don't know much beyond that. We're still working on the story and the script. It'll be in the sixties, something late in the sixties. Would Indy even recognize the Beatles if he heard them? He's like in some burrow somewhere digging up some sarcophagus, and I'm not sure he knows about music. We've never even explored Indy's love of music except Johnny Williams, and that's about all Indy ever listens to and he doesn't even get to hear it, the audience does. If we ever introduce the Beatles in the movie I promise you, because I know Paul very well, I promise you that he will love them. If."

Steven Spielberg: "We'd have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that. This will be Harrison Ford's last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that."

Collider: Jonathan Kasdan has signed on to replace David Koepp as the writer of Indiana Jones 5, multiple sources tell Collider.

Variety: The fifth film in the adventure series will miss its original release date. Sources close to the production say that shooting will no longer start next spring and will have to be pushed back by months, if not a year. Potential crew members have already been informed of the delay. Insiders stress that both Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford remain committed.

Q: "Crystal Skull shot almost entirely in the U.S., so is the idea to broaden the scope of filming this time?"
Frank Marshall: "Yes."
Q: "How is doing an Indiana Jones movie without George Lucas change the equation?"
Frank Marshall: "I love being with George and having his input, but life changes and we're moving on. He moved on. We're very respectful of the original intentions of the movie, certainly Harrison's character. The serialization of what the original intention was. I'd love to have George there. I love being around George and working with him, obviously. It'll be a little different, because the ideas are coming from a different place now."
Q: "Now that Lucasfilm is moving away from doing a new Star Wars every year, is that freeing Kathy up to focus more on Indy?"
Frank Marshall: "I hope so. [laughs] Better for me. I don't know, to be honest. They're in their own little world over there, obviously shooting Episode IX right now, so we don't talk about it much. I'm just here trying to get the writers room together."
Q: "There's an actual writers room for Indy?"
Frank Marshall: "Well, I dunno if you'd call it a writers room, but a lot of people that we trust pitch ideas and things. Gathering info."
Q: "But it's Jonathan Kasdan in the lead, right?"
Frank Marshall: "Yeah."

Q: "So, Indiana Jones 5 has been delayed again. I keep thinking, if it gets pushed a couple more years, in the movie Indiana Jones could just buy a ticket to see Raiders of the Lost Ark in theaters."
Frank Marshall: "[laughs] Oh... you're right!"
Q: "Isn't that weird?"
Frank Marshall: "Well, all these things are weird when we start talking about the movies that we've made that you never dreamed would have this kind of effect."
Q: "So Indy 5 is going to happen, right?"
Frank Marshall: "Yes."
Q: "Every time there's a delay I get worried."
Frank Marshall: "We just have to get the story right this time. We know that it's a cherished franchise, and we gotta get it right."

Frank Marshall: "The way I approach all movies is that we have to tell a good story. And that applies to everything; I don't look at films' past performance, or what they did. I think we just look forward, and we're going to come up with a great story. We're storytellers and that should be the bar that we set for ourselves. That's something that I apply to Jurassic and I apply to Bourne and I apply to Indiana Jones. Those are all franchises, and we've just got to tell a good story."

Karen Allen: "I'm patiently waiting, no they haven't [called]. I'm very much hoping that I will be a part of it and I think, from my understanding, they are creatively working away on a script that they will be happy enough with. They don't want to rush into it If they're going to do this they want it to be wonderful. They have embarked on a whole new trajectory, I think. It's a mystery to me what that is and it's a mystery to me whether I will be part of it, but I'm hoping. I would love to be part of it. I probably won't know for a year or something like that."

Karen Allen: "You know I am on tenterhooks waiting to hear. I know they are still working on the script. No-one has really told me whether Marion is returning for the story or not. But I am very hopeful that she will be. I don't know in what way we will move forward or what the timing is going to be. I don't know anything really. No-one does. Except a very small handful of people that are very mysterious about it all. It is kept very close to the chest. I imagine I will know in about a year. I know nothing right now. That's good to hear. I would love to do another one. I would love to work with Steven and Harrison and George and I have a very strong feeling that they are working really hard to create a script and a version of what might be the last chapter of this particular incarnation of Indiana Jones. They are working very hard to make it great. I would be heartbroken if I was not a part of it. You never know. It could begin with him stood over my gravestone weeping. I hope not."

Karen Allen: "Well I'm waiting to find out. It has been delayed yet again and I don't think it's going to start shooting for another year, year and a half. From what I know they're working on a script and I won't know if my character is in it until they're happy with it and I get the phone call. They've either written me into it or they haven't. I'm very hopeful they will."

Q: "What have the last 10 years of marriage with Indiana Jones been like?"
Karen Allen: "Well, that's a very interesting question. You know, I actually haven't really gone there. I haven't really given it a lot of thought. I hope it's been great. You know, the two of them certainly waited long enough to succumb to being together. They have a very troubled son, I have to say that. So that must've caused them some issues, if you know what I mean. (laughs) But I don't know. I'm a romantic, so I'm hoping that they've just had a really great 10 years and they finally resolved something that started when she was 16, he was maybe in his 20's. I love those kinds of stories, where people come back together 40 years later in their life."
Q: "I'm hoping to see you again in a few years, when they do the next one."
Karen Allen: "Hopefully. You know, I'm hoping. I'm very hopeful about that. I don't know anything. I know they've been working very hard on the script, and they keep the story and the casting and everything like that so close to the vest until they really know what they're doing. So I'm waiting patiently. It keeps getting delayed, and I guess they finally settled on about a year from this spring or something. But I probably won't know whether I'm in the film or not until much, much later on down the line."
